Hygiene and Prevention
Twice daily tooth brushing morning and evening, use of mouth rinses and dental floss — these are the elementary rules of care for teeth and the oral cavity known to each of us since childhood. Even with the best hygiene, however, once every six months it is still necessary to go to the dentist for a thorough, professional brushing and examination. This is necessary to remove soft plaque and tartar, as well as spot any emerging problems.
Professional hygiene is essential for absolutely everyone.
Without a visit to the dentist once every six months, potentially serious tooth decay and other dental problems may be overlooked. For procedures such as caries treatment, prosthetics, implantation and whitening, professional hygiene is the first step.
Why do I need to get rid of plaque and tartar?
Dental plaque consists primarily of water — up to 90%! The remainder is made up of microorganisms and saliva salts. To minimize the buildup of plaque, clean your teeth after every meal, since food residues on and between the teeth increase the concentration of germs on the teeth after meals. Then plaque begins to form in a couple of hours after brushing . Plaque accumulates throughout the day, and if you forget to brush your teeth at night, the process of plaque formation continues on the teeth. As plaque forms on the teeth, the bacteria release acids, have a negative effect on periodontal tissue.
How is professional hygiene done?
Ultrasonic brushing
During this procedure, the dentist acts on hard deposits with an ultrasonic scaler. The doctor processes each area with a calculus deposit in turn. The procedure of calculus deposit removing is not completely painless, as a little discomfort is still felt.
Air Flow
Next, the dentist proceeds to remove soft plaque using the Air Flow apparatus.rA high pressure stream of water and powder containing calcium carbonate or glycine washes the tooth enamel.
Polishing
The final stage is polishing with a special toothpaste if pigmented spots remain after the first two stages. The paste also serves as protection against rapid plaque formation.
Important
Assuming good home hygiene and regular dentist visits, then your professional hygiene, will consist solely of the Air Flow apparatus. There will be no need for ultrasound and pastes, which will then be optional.
